CONSUMERS are advised to avoid the durian-flavoured instant coffee mix pending analysis of the product, which is expected within a week, Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam said today.

“Soon, maybe in a week, the analysis will be ready.

“But I advise people not to distribute this sachet. It will be even safer not buy and drink this product until all investigations are completed and we are certain there is no problem in the process of manufacturing and distribution,” he said at the World Cancer Week Temple of Fine Arts at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur today.

The ministry has not recalled the product, which is believed to have led to seven people being hospitalised.

Subramaniam has said that no narcotic elements have been found and there was no evidence to incriminate the manufacturer.

But authorities have found drugs placed in tampered sachets of the coffee mix, which is sold widely in Malaysia and Singapore.

Authorities are still investigating how and why the coffee was contaminated. – February 5, 2018.
