THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki should volunteer to appear before the Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) on January 19 to answer questions over his conflict-of-interest allegations, Lim Kit Siang said today.

The Iskandar Puteri MP said this would also help Azam clear himself of any public doubt and resolve the issue as soon as possible.

“To ensure that the national furore over Azam-gate could be resolved at the earliest available opportunity, I suggest that Azam should volunteer to appear before the PSCC on January 19,” Lim said in a statement today.

Earlier today, Dewan Rakyat secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha sent out a notice that the PSSC on the Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department would meet next Wednesday to discuss Azam’s controversial shares ownership of Azam.

The veteran lawmaker also said that the PSSC should table a report on the meeting the very next day and called on Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to convene a special parliamentary sitting to address the matter.

“The PSSC should try to table a report on Azam-gate to the Special Session of Parliament the next day on January 20 on the recent floods disaster.

“The prime minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, should also be prepared to convene a special Parliament session to discuss Azam-gate on January 21,”he said.

Azam has been accused of owning corporate shares, which has led critics to call for investigations into the accusation.

He allegedly owned 1.93 million shares in Gets Global Berhad as at April 30, 2015, and 1.02 million shares in the same company as at March 31, 2016. His younger brother allegedly owned 3.72 million shares in the same company.

He also allegedly owned 2.15 million shares in public-listed Excel Force MSC Berhad. – January 12, 2022.
