THE Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department will meet next week to discuss the controversial share ownership of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Dewan Rakyat secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha has sent out the notice to the PSSC members, which was then shared by Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin on his Facebook.

“This meeting is aimed at discussing the share ownership relating to the MACC chief commissioner,” the notice dated January 11 read.

All PSSC members, including its chairman, PAS’ Kuala Krai MP Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman, are invited to attend the meeting on January 19 at 2pm.

Apart from Latiff and Chan, other members of the PSSC are Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak-Barisan Nasional), Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit-BN), Anyi Ngau (Baram-Gabungan Parti Sarawak), Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (Setiu-PAS), Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka-PH), Mohd Azis Jamman (Sepanggar-Warisan) and William Leong (Selayang-PH).

Several other lawmakers have called on the parliamentary panel to meet over claims of conflict of interest against Azam.

Six PKR MPs have also pushed for a cross-partisan parliamentary select committee to be established to investigate the claims.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has been vocal in asking the MACC chief to appear before the PSSC on agencies.

Azam should volunteer to appear before the PSSC or resign, said Lim.

Meanwhile, the embattled Azam told Malay-language daily Sinar Harian that he will not quit over the controversy.

“I am firm and will be steadfast in my stand not to resign because there is no need for me to step down,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

“Only one individual who is most qualified to terminate my duty is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Other than that, I don’t care about whatever demands by certain quarters.” – January 12, 2022.
