BERSATU’S status with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) is still under under investigation, Berita Harian reports.

It quoted RoS director Surayati Ibrahim as saying that among the issues that have yet to be resolved are claims that the opposition party’s recent annual general meeting was illegal and that it had violated the party’s constitution.

The matter involving Bersatu’s young wing, Armada, was also unresolved, she added.

“We have taken the statements of Bersatu secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh and of its youth chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“We are still deciding whether we need to call in the top leaders of the party,” Berita Harian quoted Surayati as saying.

She said the RoS needs more time to look into Bersatu’s legal standing because of these issues.

Bersatu had held its inaugural AGM on December 30 to comply with RoS’ requirements, while Armada is facing issues with its name.

The RoS earlier today said DAP had complied with all requirements over its leadership re-election last year.

Surayati said Bersatu’s issues were more complex than the DAPs.

Bersatu and DAP were said to be the main obstacles in Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) registration as a legally recognised coalition. PH submitted its application for registration on July 24 last year.

Bersatu and PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has accused the RoS of acting in Barisan Nasional’s favour with the delay. – February 3, 2018.
