ARMADA, the Youth wing of Bersatu, is in constant engagement with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over the party’s constitutional amendments, said its chief,

Syed Saddiq said Armada has followed the procedures and will continue its engagement with RoS over the name “Armada” which violated of the party’s constitution and the 1966 Societies Act.

“RoS issued a statement claiming that Armada did not exist and could cause Bersatu to be banned.

“On November 7, I received a letter from the RoS to investigate this case. I will assist them as best possible in the process of this investigation.

“I want my brothers in Armada to stay strong. We have to be brave and stay true as the other side (government) will try their best to undermine our struggle,” he said in a statement.

Utusan Online reported today RoS that “Armada” was not in Bersatu’s constitution.

Its director-general, Surayati Ibrahim, said Bersatu’s use of Armada was a violation of the party’s constitution and the 1966 Societies Act.

“This offence is severe and can cause a society to be deregistered. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.

She added that RoS had previously received complaints from former Bersatu and Armada members who questioned the status and management of the party as the annual general meeting has yet to be held

Syed Saddiq accused the government of using its networks and dirty tactics, such as delaying the registration of Pakatan Harapan, to derail the opposition.

“When they acknowledge that 57% of Bersatu members are youths, they get frustrated and will try their best to shake us. The more we are pressed, the more we will rise up.”

Earlier, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Bersatu might change its Youth wing’s name from Armada to “Fleet” after the RoS said the name was invalid.

The Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu chairman said they will have to look into RoS’ claims. – November 9, 2017.
