DR Mahathir Mohamad said Bersatu might change its Youth wing’s name from Armada to “Fleet ”after the Registrar of Societies said the name was invalid.

The Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu chairman said they will have to look into RoS’ claims.

“We have find out first… then we might change Armada to fleet or something like that,” he said after the “The Nature of Leadership in Our Digital Future” dialogue at Putrajaya.

Utusan Online reported today RoS said the term Armada was not contained in Bersatu’s constitution.

Its director-general, Surayati Ibrahim, said Bersatu’s use of Armada was a violation of the party’s constitution and the 1966 Societies Act.

“This offence is severe and can cause a society to be deregistered. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.

Surayati said RoS has yet to approve the amendments to the constitution to allow Bersatu to use the term “Armada” for its youth wing.

She added RoS had previously received complaints from former Bersatu and Armada members who have been questioning the status and management of the party as their annual general meeting has yet to be held. – November 9, 2017.
