ENVIRONMENT and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man must resign over his failure to manage the recent floods that hit several states, P. Ramasamy said today.

The Penang deputy chief minister said the minister was not only slow in responding to the floods but had also blamed the people for their suffering.

“As a minister in charge of environment and water, he should have been on the forefront when the floods hit many areas.

“After the floods receded, he emerged to say that the public must take responsibility, but not the government.

“By blaming the public, Tuan Ibrahim was not only irresponsible but disingenuous,” Ramasamy said in a statement.

He said this over Tuan Ibrahim’s remarks that the public was to be blamed for their losses and suffering as they had not taken the government’s weather forecasts seriously.

“If the environment and water minister has no sense of what happened, then why is he staying on as a minister?

“Shouldn’t he be giving his letter of resignation?” Ramasamy asked.
