M. INDIRA Gandhi wants to put aside the issue of her youngest daughter Prasana Diksa’s religion, saying she is longing to see the child that was separated from her nine years ago.

Her only concern, she told The Malaysian Insight, was to see Prasana and to ensure her wellbeing.

I know she is a Muslim now. I respect her decision, but as a mother I need to see and hold her.

“We don’t know what had happened and we don’t know what she looks like now. Seeing her is more important.

Let’s put aside her religion. I’m willing to accept whoever she is,” she told The Malaysian Insight.

Indira was commenting on the Malaysian Association of Muslim Scholars (PUM) who warned religious violence may erupt if police continue hunting her ex-husband and daughter.

PUM posted a statement on Facebook yesterday, urging police to stop looking for Muhammad Riduan Abdullah (Indira’s ex-husband) and Prasana, after the Federal Court on Monday ruled the unilateral conversion of Indira’s three children to Islam was null and void.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police still have no leads on their whereabouts and investigations are ongoing.

Indira said she did not want this issue to become a religious matter.

“I respect the Muslin religion. I’m also a teacher, mother and a Malaysian.

“But as a mother I have my feelings and the child is more important.

“It doesn’t matter what religion she is now. I don’t want the child to be confused as well.”

When asked if Prasana should then remain with her former husband because he can bring her up as a Muslim, Indira declined to comment.

“Let’s put that aside. We have been fighting to see her, but why is my ex-husband still hiding her from us?” she said.

On Monday, a five-man Federal court bench made an unanimous decision the conversion of Indira’s three children by Riduan, who had converted to Islam, was null and void.

The court also ruled conversions of minors will need the consent of both parents to be deemed legal.

Indira turned to the courts after Riduan took Prasana after unilaterally converting their three children to Islam in 2009.

Prasana was only 11-months-old then. Indira has another daughter aged, 21, and a 20-year-old son who are staying with her. – February 1, 2018.

  • This is a simple issue. Let us not deprive a mother of her child. The highest court of the land has decided. The PDRM should do its job. Let us not bring religion, surely Islam is a compassionate religion which is based on fairness.

  • PUM is behaving like IS.
I still believe Islam is "Fair" religious. It's only peole like PUM making Islam look bad.
The most important thing now is, let the mother see her daugther Prasana Diksa first.
Indra has every right as a mother to see her daugther and no one can stop her.
Every rational muslim mother will understand the plea by mother like Indra.
