DAP is set to win three out of the eight seats it is contesting in the Malacca elections, according to the party’s unofficial results.
The three seats are Ayer Keroh, Kota Laksamana and Bandar Hilir, where the party is the incumbent.
In Ayer Keroh, incumbent Kerk Chee Yee has 8,467 votes, compared with Barisan Nasional’s Yong Fun Juan (3,417) and Perikatan Nasional’s Michael Gan (2,198).
In Kota Laksamana, DAP’s Low Chee Leong is in a commanding lead with 11,799 against BN’s Benjamin Low (1,882) and PN’s Fong Khai Ling (1,123).
Similarly, in Bandar Hilir, Leng Chau Yen is ahead with 7,720 votes, versus BN’s Lee Kah Sean (1,120) and PN’s Clarice Chan (553).
Bandar Hilir and Kota Laksamana are Chinese-majority seats while Ayer Keroh is a mixed-ethnicity seat.
In the 2018 general election, DAP won all the eight seats it contested, but lost one – Pengkalan Batu – after its assemblyman Norhizam Hassan Baktee quit the party following the Sheraton Move, which caused Pakatan Harapan’s collapse at federal level and in several states. – November 20, 2021.
