One dead, another injured in RMAF fighter jet crash

A ROYAL Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Hawk fighter jet crashed at the RMAF Air Base in Butterworth, Penang last night, killing one person and injuring another.

In an Air Force Command statement, the RMAF confirmed that a crash involving one of its Hawk fighter jets occurred at around 10.07pm yesterday at the runway of the Butterworth Air Base.

“RMAF is now taking immediate action and will announce developments regarding this accident,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Senior Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has instructed the RMAF to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.

He said he was informed about the incident through a call from Chief of Air Force Gen Ackbal Abdul.

“There was one fatality and another person was injured. The RMAF has been ordered to provide a detailed report and to investigate the cause of the incident immediately.

“My deepest sympathies to the families of the airmen involved in the incident … very sad and disappointed to hear this news. I am given to understand that the injured airman has received immediate treatment,” he shared on Twitter.

He said the Defence Ministry was ordered to channel assistance to families of the airmen involved in the incident. – Bernama, November 17, 2021.

  • Just one question mr defence minister : what do you intend to do with the remaining hawks fighters which is more then 40 years old, I was in my primary school when it was brought in for TUDM and I am not past my retirement age, isn't its time to decommission those planes before we lost more lives?
