BERSATU supreme council member Mohamed Azmin Ali has reminded Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) not to resort to slander when campaigning in the Malacca elections.
“There is a limit to each one of us. We know that we are facing BN who are part of the government but there should be limit.
“There must not be slander in order to win votes,” said Azmin who is also PN elections director and international trade and industry minister.
He was speaking to reporters in Taman Melawati this evening, where he was asked about PN and BN facing each other in all 28 seats in the Malacca, despite being part of the same government.
Azmin said he believed Malacca voters would be able to see improvements brought to the state through PN.
“We will let the people decide. We have shown that our formula in PN was successful. We were able to govern with different parties even under a severe economic crisis,” he said.
Malacca is set to go to the polls on November 20. The filing of candidate nominations is tomorrow.
Within the PN and BN coalitions, the main rival parties – Umno and Bersatu – will face each other in 12 seats.
The biggest fight involves Bersatu Wanita chief and Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Malacca Umno chief Ab Rauf Yusoh in Tg Bidara. PKR’s Zainal Hassan will also be contesting here.
Mas Ermieyati, a former Puteri Umno chief and currently a deputy minister in the prime minister’s department, defected to Bersatu in 2018. She is also widely speculated to be PN’s candidate for chief minister.
Bersatu’s ally PAS, meanwhile, will have a face-off against its Muafakat Nasional partner, Umno, in seven seats.
Umno will go to the polls with BN allies, MCA and MIC, who will contest in seven seats and one seat, respectively. – November 7, 2021.
