KUALA Lumpur City Hall has to expedite rectification work and conduct more checks around the areas where a landslide took place in Bangsar, Fahmi Fadzil said.

The Lembah Pantai lawmaker, who is pushing for quick repairs to be carried out on a slope behind several houses that had collapsed, said that a City Hall officer had informed him that the affected area doesn’t pose a danger of a further landslip.

“It all depends, of course, on the rainfall. My main concern is whether the rest of Bukit Persekutuan (Federal Hill) should be checked.

“I have written to City Hall on whether a wider survey could be carried out along Jalan Lingkungan Negeri Sembilan (LNS),” he told The Malaysian Insight.

On October 23, a landslide occurred at LNS affecting the houses downhill at Jalan Limau Purut.

Authorities had told families living in three homes there to move out after the landslide occurred in the evening.

Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the move is a safety measure, although no casualty or damage had been reported.

Bukit Bandaraya Residents Association adviser M. Ali had also urged City Hall to expand their checks at LNS.

The association is now concerned about a slope along Jalan Limau Manis that is back-to-back with LNS that it feels is a landslide risk.

He said that if no checks were carried out, there is a possibility that about 30 homes could be affected if the rubble wall built to fortify the slope gave way.

Fahmi said that he had been informed that Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah would be holding a meeting this week to look at all the measures that needed to be taken.

This, he said included safeguarding the owners’ properties at Jalan Limau Purut, rectifications work, compensation and… (remedial works).

“We hope that this coming week they (City Hall) can update the affected residents, residents’ association and the neighbourhood.

“So far we have not received any information to what extent (compensation would be given) and when works would be carried out.”

He also said that City Hall is handling the survey report and findings with the Public Works Institute of Malaysia (Ikram), which will take about one to two months to complete. – November 1, 2021.
