AFFECTED residents have been told to move out from their houses after a landslide hit Bangsar last night, said Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor.

Amihizam in a statement today said the move is a safety measure, although no casualty or damage has been reported.

“Initial Fire and Rescue Department checks found that the landslide occurred behind houses No. 43, 45 and 47 along Jalan Limau Purut,” he said, adding that the collapse along Lingkungan Negri Sembilan and Jalan Limau Purut was caused by heavy rain in the evening.

“No damage or fatality has been recorded, but residents are advised to move out for their own safety.”

However, Amihizam said one house owner has refused to leave his residence, and that police “were informed of this by the residents’ association”.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil had earlier today asked the Public Works Institute of Malaysia (Ikram) to conduct a full survey and inspection of hill slopes, following the incident.

In a preliminary report, the Fire and Rescue Department said the soil slipped from the shoulder of the main road along a 40m stretch at 7pm yesterday.

Fahmi told The Malaysian Insight that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall will protect the exposed soil with tarpaulin, while Tenaga Nasional will remove some cables near the site.

“Remedial works will begin. A full report by Ikram will take two to three weeks, and I have requested for a full survey and inspection due to the frequency of these landslides and sinkholes, the ageing water and drainage infrastructure, and development taking place nearby.”

The PKR lawmaker tweeted about the landslide last night, saying it was the second incident in months.

Amihizam said his men received a distress call on the incident at about 6.30pm, adding that a team from the Travers police station was immediately deployed to the area. – October 24, 2021.
