POLICE have confirmed that a RM10,000 compound has been issued to PKR for violating a Health Ministry (MOH) ban by holding mobile talks.

Malacca Criminal Investigation Department chief Azlan Abu said the fine is in line with provision 16 PU (A) 293 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (National Recovery Plan) 2021.

“Police have ordered the organiser to stop the programme following the standard operating procedures under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, which forbid any programme related to the state elections and those that can result in public gathering in a place that makes physical distancing difficult.”

PKR Information chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, who confirmed this at a media conference today, wants MOH and the Home Affairs Ministry to furnish campaign method details for the Malacca elections.

Prior to this, Barisan Nasional and Muda were also compounded for violating the ban.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had last Saturday said any activity, gathering or social event linked to the polls, including organising the launching of election machinery, is not allowed effective from October 25 until November 27.

He said this is to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 and prevent a surge in cases. – Bernama, October 31, 2021.
