PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has left it up to PAS to decide on its understanding with Umno for the Malacca elections.

Chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said the coalition will continue the strategy that has been discussed and planned, and prepare for any possible three-cornered fight.

“During its general assembly, Umno has decided to not work with Bersatu. So, we will not wait and continue our preparations for the state elections.

“Whether there are three-cornered fights or four-cornered ones (that is not the point) because for me, this is a challenge. And we strive to offer the best option for Malacca,” he told reporters after attending an afternoon tea session with professionals in Malacca today.

On Thursday, Umno decided to continue its understanding with PAS to face the Malacca elections, which will be held on November 20.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan was reported as saying that the stand is in line with general assembly resolutions, which, among others, is to strengthen Muafakat Nasional (a pact formed by Umno and PAS).

The Bersatu president said PAS has the right to make its own decisions.

“I hope that they will make a careful consideration, so no uncertainty arises in our strategy that can affect our (election) machinery in Malacca.”

On seat distribution involving Bersatu, Gerakan and PAS, Muhyiddin said it will be finalised before nomination day.

“I assure you that the candidates we will field are qualified candidates; most of them are young people, men and women from all races. I expect them to get the support of the voters in Malacca.” – Bernama, October 30, 2021.
