UMNO will continue its cooperation with PAS, through their Muafakat Nasional coalition, in the Malacca elections next month, party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said today.

He said the decision was made by the Umno Supreme Council in a special meeting this evening.

Ahmad said the council also agreed for PAS to use its own logo in the elections to avoid any clashes.

“We decided to continue the understanding with PAS in line with the resolution agreed upon at the Umno general assembly 2020.

“The basis of understanding with PAS is guided by the principle that it uses its own logo, to avoid clashes with each other,” he said at a press conference posted live on Facebook Umno Online.

Ahmad said the possibility of PAS contesting under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo would be a matter for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On October 25, PAS had agreed with its coalition allies to contest using the PN logo.

The Election Commission set November 20 as the date for the elections after four assemblymen led by Idris Haron (Sungai Udang-BN) announced their decision to withdraw their support for Menteri Besar Sulaiman Md Ali. – October 28, 2021.
