Klang Valley logs 1,688 new Covid-19 infections

THE Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, accounted for 1,688 of the 6,630 Covid-19 cases report by the Health Ministry yesterday.

The number in Selangor makes up for the bulk of cases with 1,322 infections, the CovidNow website shows.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur recorded 322 cases and Putrajaya, 44.

Other states and federal territories that reported new cases yesterday were Johor (548), Kedah (432), Kelantan (589), Malacca (183), Negri Sembilan (192), Pahang (302), Perak (381), Perlis (43), Penang (440), Sabah (641), Sarawak (750), Terengganu (439), Labuan (2) and Putrajaya (44). 

Over the past seven days, the country witnessed a decline of hospital admissions by 14%. The seven-day average admission was 1,458 with bed utilisation at 68%. 

While Selangor accounted for the bulk of cases, it reported a 18% decline in hospital admissions over the last seven days.

Over the past week, the recorded 299 hospital admissions while bed utilisation stood at 65%. 

Sarawak, which logged the second highest number of cases in the country yesterday, reported the highest increase in hospital admissions over the past seven days at 8% hospital. 

On a seven-day average, the state reported 401 admissions, with 75% of its bed utilised. 

Malaysia’s active cases continued to drop, the national caseload now stands 80,697.

Of these, 643 patients were treated in the intensive care unit with 320 requiring ventilatory assistance.

Meanwhile, 62,387 patients were on home quarantine, 11,306 in low-risk quarantine centres and 6,361 were hospitalised.

Total recoveries number 2.31 million, 7,630 of which were reported yesterday. – October 23, 2021.
