THE Covid-19 situation in Malaysia continues to improve as most key indicators are on a downward trajectory.

Starting with the Covid-19 daily cases, the number of recoveries outnumbered new cases for the 23rd straight day today.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia reported 14,422 recoveries against 8,743 fresh infections as of noon today.

He said of the new cases reported, 8,621 people or 98.6% were in the less severe asymptomatic and mildly asymptomatic categories of 1 and 2.

Only 122 people or 1.4% were in the more serious categories of 3, 4 and 5.

The Health Ministry confirmed earlier today that moving forward, all Covid-19 information will be uploaded onto the website.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the ministry would focus on important and key indicators as Malaysia moves into the endemic phase.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham also said that the number of patients treated in critical care also saw a reduction today.

He said 770 patients were admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 714 confirmed for Covid-19 and 56 suspected cases and cases under investigation.

He said there was a slight increase in patients needing ventilators at 419, with 304 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 115 suspected cases and cases under investigation.

Yesterday, 792 patients were treated in the ICU and 386 on respiratory support.

Besides this, Noor Hisham said the ministry traced 10 new Covid-19 clusters as of noon today, contributing 362 cases.

He said four clusters were linked to workplaces (133 cases), four traced to the community (166) and two high-risk groups (63).

The addition of clusters today brings the nationwide count to 5,580. Of this, 845 are still active while 4,735 have ended. – October 9, 2021.
