SEVERAL activists and civil society groups are gearing up to lodge another round of police reports against preacher Syakir Nasoha after more videos of him making inflammatory remarks against other religions emerged on social media.

Global Human Rights Federation president S. Shashi Kumar said they have started gathering people in several states to lodge the reports.

The reports are planned to be made tomorrow.

“We have started organising and will lodge police reports in different states on Sunday,” Shashi told The Malaysian Insight.

“We are moving with a large group in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor.

“So, we expect a few thousand more police reports to be made against this preacher for two of his videos found on social media recently. These are different videos of him making insensitive remarks, not the same as his previous videos.”

Shashi said one of the videos was dated last year while the other was made on October 1.

He said in both videos, Syakir directed insults at the Hindus, among others.

“In the video made last year, he said Hindus practised heresy,” he said.

“In the October 1 video, he admitted that it was him in the previous videos but he was not apologetic. Instead, he went on to make insulting comments against the Indians in the country. He has removed the video he posted last week, but we have downloaded it.

“These are just a few videos of him. There are more actually.”

Last week, some 3,000 police reports were lodged nationwide against Syakir, who was seen in a viral video making disparaging comments against non-Muslim religions as well as the Dayak community.

The groups said the non-Muslims were fed up with the deliberate attack against them and called for the preacher to be arrested and charged immediately.

Shashi has urged the police to act quickly on the matter and not dwell further on it as there is substantial evidence against Syakir.

“It is a simple one-hour-plus video of the preacher making disparaging remarks against other races and religions in the country,” he said.

“People are not going to be happy and will talk about it until the police arrest the preacher. So, they have to act immediately.”

On Thursday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan said police have begun investigation on the preacher for allegedly inciting or which is likely to incite any race or community of persons to commit any offence against any other race or community under section 505(c) of the penal code and the misuse of network facilities under section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

He said the probe is being undertaken by Bukit Aman’s special investigation unit.

Meanwhile, Syakir released a video claiming that his speech, which went viral, was meant for Muslims only and has been taken out of context and misunderstood.

He said the viral video posted online containing parts of his speech was taken out of context and did not show his full remarks. – October 9, 2021.

  • There are exceptions to the rule. Dont judge a book by its cover, a popular saying goes. But looking at the picture of the preacher it is hard to not label him a religious bigot. And to think he got to where he is now with Government money which according to a past PM of Malaysia is contributed mainly by non-Muslim Malaysians.
