SOME 3,000 police reports will be lodged nationwide today against Islamic preacher Syakir Nasoha, who was seen in a viral video making disparaging comments against non-Muslim religions as well as the Dayak community, Global Human Rights Federation said.

Its president, S. Shasi Kumar, said civil society groups and activists will be lodging the police reports in 17 districts nationwide today, including those in Sabah and Sarawak.

“We, the non-Muslims, are fed up. Enough is enough. This is a deliberate attack on non-Muslims,” Shasi told reporters after lodging a report at the Sentul district police headquarters today.

“We lodged this police report because we want this preacher to be arrested immediately and charged.

“There are many cases where those who insulted and defamed non-Muslims were only arrested, but not charged.”

Several representatives from Sabah and Sarawak were also present at the police station to lodge similar reports.

In a one-minute video that started going viral on social media on Friday, Syakir said “at the end of time, disciples of non-Muslim religions will be scrambling together to kill Muslims in the world”.

He also claimed that the assassination of Muslims in Thailand and India were carried out by Buddhists and Hindus.

In the footage, Syakir was found also making disparaging statements against the Dayak community, alleging they had raped and butchered Muslims in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

‘Table racial and religious hatred bill’

Shasi also urged the government to table the racial and religious hatred bill in the Parliament to protect the unity and harmony of all Malaysians.

“The reason this bill is needed is because there are always double standards,” he said.

“When one insults a Muslim or Islam, actions will be taken immediately and that person will be charged.

“However, it is not applicable if it happens the other way around. We have seen cases against Muslim preachers dropped even though there are concrete evidence against them.”

He said National Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique should step down if she fails to table it.

Shasi also took a swipe at political leaders and ministers for setting bad examples.

He said some of the racial derogatory remarks made by leaders also showed that they are not sensitive towards the non-Muslims in the country.

“The core of this problem comes from the government itself,” he said.

“In Parliament, some MPs and ministers always call the people ‘penumpang’ and ‘pendatang’. What kind of leaders are you? Treat everyone as Malaysians and treat us with respect.”

Shasi also asked the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia to monitor the preachers because incidents like this will give it a bad image. – October 3, 2021.

  • If no action is taken to charge this "preacher" and give him the mandatory minimum two years in prison out of the maximum 5, (Sec. 298A Penal Code) then it can mean only one thing, and that is that his actions are STATE SACNTIONED.

  • Unfortunately in this country it seems to have become the accepted practise by the successive governments except PH for leniency towards racist attacks against non-Muslims. We have been sacrificed to cover up the incompetency of thewe governments and the consolidation of votes for power. Day by day The future is looking bleaker for non-Muslims in this country.

  • This is the result of the government giving face (bagi muka) to the racists over the past decades. It amounted to STATE SANCTIONING OF RACISM as action was never taken. Just a few months back the Attorney General said he would NOT take action against preachers Vinoth and Firdaus against whom many police reports were made. The racists have become so brazen. A few days ago, there was a video clip of some people destroying certain soft-drinks in a convenience store. Destroying other people's property is criminal, isn't it? But they go scot free for doing it in the name of religion. The government cannot talk of "one family" Malaysia and yet close an eye to people who hide behind race and religion to cause ill-will among Malaysians. Why isn't the law brought down on them? https://www.burgielaw.com/resources/act?act_title=Penal+Code&section=298A
