INCUMBENT Sg Udang assemblyman Idris Haron said Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders and representatives have been calling him since his sacking from Umno, after he pulled support from the Barisan Nasional-led Malacca government.

“Wait until I cross the bridge, every party leader has met and called me (while) some sent representatives,” he told The Malaysian Insight when asked if he would be joining PH after his expulsion from Umno.

He said he was an independent elected representative at this juncture.

Idris, a former Malacca chief minister, earlier this week led three other assemblymen in withdrawing support for then chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali, who is from Umno.

The other three are Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu).

Idris and Nor Azman were from Umno, and immediately had their memberships revoked.

Idris in a statement earlier today seemed to hint that he was also willing to be PH’s chief minister candidate, if he joined the coalition.

“It is not my call to be the chief minister, I will berceramah (explain) to people about the truth and will stand up for social justice and the people’s wellbeing,” he said when asked to comment on reports he had offered himself for the post.

He was said to have obtained the support of PH assemblymen to form a new state government but Malacca legislative assembly Speaker Abd Rauf Yusoh then announced the dissolution of the house.

Rauf said the dissolution was on the advice of Sulaiman to Malacca Governor Mohd Ali Rustam after he (Sulaiman) had lost majority support.

Elections must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the state assembly. The Malacca legislature has 28 seats. Combined, PH assemblymen and the four who caused the collapse of Sulaiman’s government hold 15 seats. – October 8, 2021.
