THERE will not be any Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the alleged theft at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the death of a property developer in Penang on Tuesday, said Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“The criteria for RCIs are based on the complexity of the cases. There is no complexity in these cases,” said the law and parliament minister in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“Moreover, both cases are being investigated by the police or the MACC already,” said the Santubong MP.

Wan Junaidi said the government decided to have an RCI for Tabung Haji as issues in the pilgrimage fund have been taking place for a long time.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak leader was responding to Chang Lih Kang (Tg Malim-Pakatan Harapan) who asked about the criteria for having an RCI.

Wan Junaidi was also responding to Salim Sheriff who asked if the government will form an RCI to look into the death of the property developer.

The property developer is also a witness in former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s corruption trial involving an undersea tunnel.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi did not confirm whether there will be an RCI on former Attorney General Tommy Thomas.

“I will raise it in the cabinet on whether there is a need to have an RCI on his book,” said the minister.

Wan Junaidi was responding to Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling-BN) on the matter.

Umno has asked for an RCI on the former AG to ascertain if he had initiated corruption trials against its leaders based on political reasons.

Among those who are still on trial for corruption are Umno president  Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as former party president Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor. – October 7, 2021.
