A PARENTS’ group has told teachers who refuse to get vaccinated against Covid-19 to “gracefully resign” and provide private tuition online instead, the New Straits Times reported. today

Parent Action Group for Education president Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said the unvaccinated teachers could even make more money as virtual tutors.

Azimah, commenting on the ruling by the Public Service Department (PSD) that made it compulsory for all federal civil servants, including teachers, to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, also suggested that the anti-vaccination teachers could also opt for early retirement.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin last month said there were about 2,000 teachers who have refused the vaccination.

PSD had said disciplinary action would be taken against civil servants who refused to get vaccinated under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.

Exceptions will be made for those who cannot get the shots for health reasons.

The Education Ministry had earlier threatened to transfer the teachers who declined the jabs. – October 2, 2021.
