62% of population fully vaccinated against coronavirus

ABOUT 20.25 million people, or 62% of the Malaysian population, have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of yesterday, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said.

This means that 86.3% of the adult population have also completed their Covid-19 vaccination.

Meanwhile, 23.54 million people, or 72.1% of the general population and 94.2% of adults, have received at least one of the two-dose Covid-19 vaccines.

More than 43.69 million doses of vaccines have been administered, including 329,163 doses dispensed yesterday, since the national immunisation programme began on February 24,

The Klang Valley has the highest vaccination rate with 81.2% of its general population and 110.9% of its adult population having been fully vaccinated.

Sabah has the lowest vaccination coverage and is the only state to have vaccinated less than 70% of its adult population.

Only 1.66 million of Sabah folk have been fully vaccinated. This translates to 42.7% of the adult population and 60.3% of the general population.

A vaccination rate of more than 100% means that the changes in the population size in the area have yet to be accounted for by the of Statistics Department since the last census was taken. This also includes undocumented residents.

Meanwhile, 52,774 children, or 1.7% of the population aged 12 to 17 have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while 1.44 million of them, or 47.6%, have received one of two Pfizer shots.

Kedah, which was the last state in phase 1 of the national recovery plan, will be moving into phase 2 today.

States and territories moving from phase 2 to 3 are Malacca, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. – October 1, 2021.
