TEACHERS who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19 may be transferred if their actions cause the teaching and learning process of students to be affected.

Senior Education Minister Radzi Jidin said one of the solutions being considered was to transfer the teachers.

“Previously, unvaccinated teachers could not teach face-to-face but must be present in school, where they are put in a special place and given assignments.

“However, we find that in certain schools, there are teachers who refuse to be vaccinated teaching the same subjects. So, in this context, how can learning continue? he asked.

Radzi was speaking to reporters after visiting the Langkawi Vocational College today.

He said the issue should not be allowed to prolong.

Transfers, including interstate, might be carried out to resolve it, he added.

Radzi said teachers who refused to be vaccinated had been advised at a very early stage and given sufficient time to get their vaccine jabs.

“Of the 2,500 teachers who refused to be vaccinated, there are now only about 2,000. This may look like a small number but we cannot let this go on. We must take immediate action,” he said.

He said his ministry was waiting for the public service department to decide on the appropriate form of action to be taken.

On the vaccination of teenagers, he said that so far, acceptance has been good.

“Parents are determined to get their children vaccinated. We will continue to monitor the situation,” he said. – Bernama, September 26, 2021.
