MORE than 19 million people, or 58.7% of the general population and 81.8% of the adult population in Malaysia, have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the special committee for ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccine supply.

The committee said 22.48 million, or 93.5% of the adult population and 68.8% of the general population, have received at least one vaccine shot.

The Klang Valley now has the highest proportion of vaccinations with 79.3% of its general population and 108.3% of its adult population inoculated.

When an area records a vaccination rate of more than 100%, it means that the changes in the population size is yet to be accounted for by the Department of Statistics since the last census was conducted. This also includes undocumented residents.

Sabah had the lowest vaccination coverage and is the only state to have vaccinated less than 60% of the adult population.

Only 1.58 million of Sabah folk have been fully vaccinated. This translates to 40.5% of the adult population and 57.3% of the general population.

Meanwhile, 41.57 million doses of vaccine have been administered under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme with 261,255 doses dispensed yesterday.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the committee is also working towards covering the remaining 20% of the adult population who have yet to or refuse to be vaccinated.

Vaccination for adolescents has also begun with 500,000 teenagers already receiving their first shot. – September 24, 2021.
