PUTRAJAYA is not just threatening teachers, but all government servants, against supporting the opposition, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said this is what the coalition has been told by government servants .
“We find that the ministers and prime minister are giving political talks to government servants, not regarding administration, but threatening them to vote for Umno in the next general election,” said Dr Mahathir during a question-and-answer session during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) policy talk on Facebook today.
Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid was reported to have said that disciplinary action would be taken against teachers if they backed the opposition. He also barred them from joining opposition parties and criticising the government.
The Education Ministry’s media and communications office have since explained that Mahdzir had been giving “fatherly advice” when he told teachers and education officers not to support the opposition.
Dr Mahathir said it was wrong to prohibit government officers from listening to both sides of the political divide.
“This is wrong… government officers should (not be prevented from) to listening to all political talks, only then can get the information for them to make the correct choice.
“But this, the government officers are threatened, this is what they are telling us, that they are threatened to stay away from the opposition,” he said.
He said it was important that the people chose a good leader in the next general election to fix the situation.
“Today we don’t have that good leader in the government, there is a lot of stories and scandals, money is stolen, the money of 1MDB, RM42 billion is lost, the money of Felda is lost, the Tabung Haji is used to buy overpriced land.
“There are all sorts of money lost, wherever we save the money, that money is used to be invested and is lost, be it KWSP or KWAP, but when we ask, everything is good.”
Ownership of parcels of Felda land in Jalan Semarak was transferred to a developer in a dubious deal that ended in Felda not being paid for the land estimated to be worth RM270 million.
Felda chairman Shahrir Samad has since said that the agency was getting back the land from the developer, which has volunteered to return ownership to Felda.
“Where is the proof? Money cannot be moved unless there is a paper trail. When money is moved from a bank to another bank there must be a paper trail of its movements,” Dr Mahathir said,
“This is why we are now suffering, and I believe that as long as this government is here, we will urge that the government fix its ways or we will change the government.”
He said he was now himself also a “target” of the government.
“So I am also the target, my friends are unable to see me now because whoever sees me will be visited by the Inland Revenue Board and will be given a high tax rate to pay.” – January 24, 2018.

This is my opinion, referring to your statement saying that not highly educated or exposed.
Firstly, i'd like to mention that i believe that high education means that a person manage to educate themself atleast until they managed to earn a diploma or a degree. So, i haave to disagree with your earlier statement.
Are you implying that most gov. officers arent highly educated? If that's the case, i really hope you're not refferring the all the lawyers, judges, engineers, doctors, accountants, surveyors, architects, medical specialists, teachers, lecturer, professors, researchers.. man, the list can go very long. But, i believe you'll get my point.
The thing is, i believe a general statement like that might hurt other people's feelings. I believe that is not your intention, and i'm replying to your comment just to ensure that everybody else won't get the wrong picture here.
Anyway, in Malaysia, i'm proud to say that we've manage to improve our education system though it's still far from perfect. And i'd like to share with you that most government officers were given a lot of exposure related to their profession. Have a good day. Cheers!
