FORMER prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed chairman of the National Recovery Council with ministerial status, said chief secretary Mohd Zuki Ali.

According to Zuki, the cabinet made this decision at its meeting on September 1 and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been informed of the appointment.

“The appointment was made based on Muhyiddin’s ability to spearhead the country’s recovery strategy and restore the lives of the people who were severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Muhyiddin, the country’s eighth PM, resigned in mid-August following the loss of support in parliament.

The Bersatu president had tried to persuade the opposition to let him stay in power by offering several reform changes but the offer was rejected.

The Pagoh MP had no choice but to relinquish his post and backed Ismail Sabri Yaakob from Umno.

Ismail Sabri was sworn in after the Umno vice-president garnered support from 114 MPs. – September 4, 2021.

  • Bad choice I must say, that the leader of a kerajaan gagal is now made head of NRC, with Minister status? Why must people be so greedy for the salary, perks and power? Every elected representative now want to be a cabinet member or accorded some position with Ministrer status of be appointed head of a giant GLC. A very very bad culture since the PN govt took power.
