Almost 40% of adult population fully vaccinated against Covid-19

MALAYSIA yesterday administered 357,981 of Covid-19 shots, after dispensing more than 400,000 doses on Monday.

The special committee for vaccine access said this means 25.3 million people have been vaccinated.

About 68.9%, or 16.1 million of the adult population have received one dose, while 39.5% or 9.2 milion have received two.

The government aims to vaccinate at least 500,000 people a day to ensure the entire adult population is vaccinated by October.

Of yesterday’s shots, 160,320 were first doses and 197,661, second doses.

Sabah led in the administration of first doses with 31,370, followed by Johor (27,716) and Selangor (22,293).

Selangor dispensed the most number of second doses yesterday with 80,526, followed by Kuala Lumpur (43,873) and Johor (23,059)

In Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya – which come under the Klang Valley – 6.3 million people have received a dose of the vaccine while 3.4 million are fully inoculated.

Meanwhile, 19,991 new infections were logged yesterday with the bulk of the cases in the Klang Valley.

Selangor recorded the most cases at 7,338, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,374) and Kedah (1,830).

Starting yesterday, restrictions were eased for fully vaccinated individuals in states in phase 2 of the national recovery plan.

Those who have had two shots of the vaccine in those states may now dine out, travel interdistrict, take local tours, and take part in selected sports. – August 11, 2021.
