MALAYSIA records 19,257 new Covid-19 cases, a slight dip from yesterday’s numbers, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
Yesterday, the country recorded its highest infections in a single day at 20,889 cases.
Of today’s total, the bulk of the cases are from the Klang Valley, with a total of 9,534 infections.
Selangor recorded 7,804 cases while Kuala Lumpur recorded 2,450 cases. This is followed by Kedah with 1,514 cases.
Meanwhile, Sabah reported 1,255 cases, Johor reported 1,182, Penang reported 959, Kelantan reported 930, Negri Sembilan reported 884, Perak reported 774, Pahang reported 714, Sarawak reported 573, Terengganu reported 425, Melaka reported 414, Putrajaya reported 56, Perlis reported 41, and Labuan reported 2.
Yesterday, Noor Hisham said that the country may observe a downward trend in cases by the end of this month, once the country has fully vaccinated 40% of its population.
To date, 15.3 million, or 47% of the population, have received one dose, and 8.2 million, or 25.3% of the population, have completed their vaccination.
Putrajaya aims to fully inoculate the adult population of the country by October. – August 7, 2021.
