Record high of 17,405 Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA recorded a staggering 17,405 new Covid-19 cases with the Klang Valley accounting for more than 57% of infections in the past 24 hours, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

This comes just four days after the country recorded 17,045 new cases, which was then the highest number of infections in a single day.

Of the total today, Selangor recorded the highest number of cases, at 7,171, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,880 infections, taking the tally in the Klang Valley to 10,051, or 57% of the cases recorded in the past 24 hours.

Infections were also high in Kedah, at 1,112, Johor (767) and Sabah (913).

Meanwhile, 553,871 Covid-19 vaccine jabs were administered yesterday under the government’s inoculation drive.

A total of 356,112 people received their first dose while 197,759 got their second shot to complete the course.

Nationwide, 5.9 million people or 18.1% of the population have had two shots and 12.4 million or 38.2% of the population have had one. – July 28, 2021.
