23.6 million Covid-19 shots administered

ABOUT 23.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered through the national Covid-19 immunisation programme, as of yesterday.

In total, 15.3 million, or 47% of the population, have received one dose, and 8.2 million, or 25.3% of the population, have received a second dose.

The Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said 447,035 shots were administered nationwide yesterday. 

Of these, 187,756 were first doses and 259,279, second doses. 

The governments aims to fully vaccinate the adult population by October. As of yesterday, 65.6% of adults have received a shot, and 35.3% of adults, two.

In the Klang Valley, which encompasses Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, 6.1 million, or 72.9% of the population have had one jab and 2.9 million people, or 34.9% of the population, their second shot.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported a record 20,889 new infections, 11,275 of them in the Klang Valley. Selangor reported 8,792 cases and Kuala Lumpur, 2,483. – August 7, 2021.
