Another Covid-19 high today as 15,902 new cases reported

NEW Covid-19 cases continued to rise with 15,902 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the national caseload to 996,393, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The national caseload is now just short of less than 4,000 cases to reach the one-million mark.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur continue to lead the daily number of new cases with 7,351 and 2,406 respectively.

This was followed by Kedah at 867 cases, Johor (804), Sabah (712) and Negri Sembilan (625).

With today’s infections, Selangor now has 358,969 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (108,006) and Johor (83,308).

Meanwhile, smaller states such as Labuan, Putrajaya and Perlis continue to have the fewest number of new infections at 30, 59 and seven respectively.

On the east coast, Kelantan saw 502 new infections while Terengganu had 267 and Pahang 406.

Up to yesterday, Malaysia administered 462,242 doses of vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.

“A total of 301,536 individuals were given their first dose, while the remaining 160,706 completed their second dose yesterday,” he tweeted.

The latest daily vaccination number dipped from the day before, where 507,050 doses were administered, but the figure yesterday remained above the 400,000 mark.

The 400,000 mark was hit almost daily since July 12 with a dip to 299,593 on Tuesday, 380,440 on July 17 and 344,961 on July 18.

The total number of Covid-19 vaccines administered under the programme now stands at 16.49 million.

Of this, 11.22 million or 34.4% of the adult population have been administered with one dose of vaccine while the remaining 5.26 million or 16.1% of the population are now fully immunised. – July 24, 2021.
