PAKATAN Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad today challenged PAS to declare its prime minister candidate.
“We want to know who is their prime minister candidate.
“Is it (Barisan Nasional chairman) Najib (Razak) or me? We want to know.
“If people like their candidate, they may win,” Dr Mahathir said in a press conference after the opposition coalition’s presidential council meeting in Petaling Jaya today.
A reporter had asked him for his take on Bersatu Supreme Council member A Kadir Jasin’s allegation that there is a secret Umno-PAS pact in Kelantan to allow the Islamist party to retain the state. PAS vic-president Idris Ahmad yesterday denied the allegation.
Dr Mahathir did not answer the question but instead challenged PAS to name its prime minister candidate.
The Bersatu chairman also declined to answer a question on how PH would deal with Selangor PKR, which has openly voiced its objection to the coalition’s choice of prime minister designate.
Dr Mahathir said that such disagreements could be resolved through talks but refused to elaborate.
“These are internal issues, there is no need for the press to know.”
On January 7, PH announced Dr Mahathir as its prime minister-designate and PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy. She is also PKR president.
It also said it would seek a royal pardon for PKR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to succeed Dr Mahathir. – January 16, 2018.
