PRIME Minister Najib Razak took potshots at Dr Mahathir Mohamad today, saying the former prime minister has strayed from his original struggles and is “refusing to retire”.
Addressing a group of police retirees, Najib refrained from naming his former mentor, but urged the veterans to be prepared to let young leaders take over and not to emulate “a certain 93-year-old”.
“Old is gold. I remember a saying in English, ‘Age does not matter, as long as what matters doesn’t age’,” he said during his speech at the Putra World Trade Centre.
The Pekan lawmaker also urged the veterans to show solidarity with current government leaders even though they had retired.
“We have to fight. Our duties are not finished.
“However, there is a 93-year-old whose struggle is not complete, but he has deviated into talking nonsense.”
Najib said the veterans’ support was vital for the government, and urged them not to be swayed by issues that had been politicised.
“Gentlemen, we need to contribute to the future of the country in our own ways.
“Go back to the villages and support the government.” – January 15, 2018.
