Law firms situated in areas in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor that are placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), are allowed to operate throughout the period with strict adherence to standard operating procedure (SOP).

De facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan said the permission was given after considering the need for legal services to support other essential services sectors and to facilitate the running of court and government-related affairs.

“Only two employees or 20 per cent of total manpower, whichever is higher, are allowed to work from the office and the working hours is fixed at between 9am and 1pm,” he said in a statement here Saturday night.

He said that law firms are also required to schedule appointments with clients if there are matters that have to be dealt with face-to-face.

Law firms can apply for permission to operate through the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0 portal. Approvals that were previously obtained through the CIMS during the phase 1 of the movement-control order remain valid. – Bernama, July 4, 2021.
