IT is not against the law for MySejahtera users not to update their health status on the application, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

However, he said, it was advisable for users to do so.

The minister’s statement comes after reports of users being fined by authorities for not updating their Covid-19 health status on MySejahtera.

“I would like to inform the public that not updating their MySejahtera application is not against the law,” Ismail said in a statement.

“Based on Act 342 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, this measure is not considered as an offence and the public should not be compounded,” he said.

He said officers who have compounded users for this reason must nullify the compounds.

He added that authorities must be vigilant when it comes to interpreting the standard operating procedure (SOP) enforced by the government.

Ismail reiterated that although it was not an offence for the public not to update their MySejahtera health status, the public must have a sense of responsibility in order to curb the Covid-19 virus.

He called upon the public to be honest about their Covid-19 health status on the application as it would make it easier for health authorities to detect and trace the virus in the community.

Covid-19 cases in Malaysia declined for the fifth consecutive day today as the country reported 5,271 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.

This is also the first time in 20 days that the daily figure has dipped below the 6,000 mark – the last being on May 18 with 4,865 cases recorded.

Earlier today, National Security Council (NSC) director-general Mohd Rabin Basir was also reported as saying that it was unnecessary for MySejahtera users to regularly update their health status on the mobile application.

He clarified that such updates were only needed under certain circumstances – if one began exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms, had travelled overseas, had contact with a Covid-19 patient, or had been diagnosed with Covid-19.
