A FRIEND who was craving Raya food told me about the BIGAPPetite app that would deliver the food to my home at 50% off for first-time users. We were game for it, having had quite good Malay food at Plan B in Bangsar Village 1.

We decided on the Lemang set and Lontong set in the Jom Raya menu, which covered most of what we like. In the lontong set (RM95, for 4-5 pax) are 10 pieces of nasi impit, a large tub (500g) each of kuah kacang, sambal sotong and pumpkin lodeh.

The Lemang set (RM65, for 3-4 pax) offers five pieces of lemang, 500g each of rendang daging and kuah kacang. The total bill for all these with the 50% discount and RM10 delivery fee was just RM94.80.

We loved it because the creamy and delicious pumpkin lodeh in the Lontong set was loaded with three big chunks of sweet pumpkin, carrot, cabbage and French beans. The nasi impit was still warm when it arrived. It tasted so good with the lodeh and some of the spicy and lightly sweet sambal sotong.

The kuah kacang was of the right consistency, nutty and flavourful, going well with the nasi impit.

At this time, I just can’t bring myself to buy lemang from hawkers and roadside stalls. The one from Plan B is as good as you can get; sticky and lemak-y (full of fat). The rendang daging was well cooked and generous, with lush and tender beef. Lemang and rendang are the perfect pairing. We should have added another tub of rendang from the menu.

Needless to say, we had a lot of leftovers, good enough for another meal, but then we had finished the pumpkin lodeh and the rendang daging. There was still a large portion of sambal sotong (for nasi lemak?) and a tub of kuah kacang.

There are other meals to choose from on this Jom Raya menu, such as the Malay Classic Delights set, at RM55 (2 pax), which has two portions of rice, two main dishes (such as soup tulang), a vegetable dish, a sambal, two side dishes and two drinks.

You could order for breakfast too, zeroing in on the wonder waffles with caramelised bananas (RM26) or the Surfer’s Brekkie of smoked salmon, eggs, guacamole on Turkish ciabiatta toast (RM33).

It’s cafe fare at Plan B, which includes buttermilk chicken carbonara (RM28), pan mee pasta (RM24) and the Godfather burger (RM28).

The BIGAPPetite app covers the other restaurants in the BIG Group such as Plan B Roasters, Ben’s General Foodstore, Ben’s Bake Shop, Beast and Plan B in other locations.

It’s an easy-to-use app that shows you the distance each outlet is from your home so that you can decide if the delivery fee is acceptable to you. You can also track the delivery of your meal.

The Jom Raya menu is valid until 13 June. While it’s 50% off for the first order with the app, subsequent orders will get 25% off throughout MCO 3.0. Check out the Big Group’s Facebook page for menu offers. – May 29, 2021.
