AFTER earning brickbats for making light of the LRT train disaster at a media conference, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has landed in police crosshairs for not wearing a mask at the same event which was aired live on social media.
The Prasarana chairman is now under investigation for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedure.
Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah the case was filed under section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and rule 17 (1) the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
Police will call up Tajuddin as well as the other attendees at the event for questioning.
At the Facebook Live event yesterday, Tajuddin is seen talking to the media bare-faced about the Monday LRT train crash in Kuala Lumpur.
More than 200 people were injured, a quarter of them critically so, when two trains collided on the LRT Kelana Jaya line.
His Covid-19 transgression aside, Tajudin is also accused of violating the rules of good taste by making jokes at the media debriefing, for which he had appeared ill-prepared. He was also soundly bashed on social media for not showing up at the crash scene on the evening it occurred.
An irate Tajuddin had then lashed out at his critics, demanding that they stop “provoking” him with their calls for his resignation.
To explain his non-appearance at the train station the night of the crash, the Pasir Salak MP said he had been in Subang, Selangor for work when it occurred and he did not find out about it until late.
“When I found out (about the accident), I made up my mind to go first thing in the morning. That’s how serious I was.
“Don’t try to provoke. It’s not good. I don’t like all this. What’s the point?” he told reporters at the KLCC LRT station today
He was responding to the Public Transport Users Association’s calls for him to step down.
The Transport Ministry has set up a special committee headed by its secretary-general Isham Ishak to investigate the collision.
It is speculated that the crash was due to human error. – May 26, 2021.
