High court grants leave to G25 to challenge book ban

THE Kuala Lumpur High Court has granted leave to G25 to challenge a ban on its book Breaking the Silence: Voice of moderation – Islam in a Constitutional Democracy, said media reports.

Justice Kamaludin Md Said’s order was met with no objections from senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan, representing Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

G25’s counsel told the media that the court had fixed January 23 for case management.

The group of prominent former civil servants had applied for a judicial review to challenge the ban in October last year.

The Home Ministry had gazetted a ban on the book, published in 2015 with a foreword by former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, on July 27 last year. – January 9, 2018.
