INTERSTATE and inter-district travel as well as activities that can cause public congestion are not allowed from Monday until June 6, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The four-week ban on such activities also includes events involving government officials and the private sector, the senior minister (security cluster) said.

Although the ban is until June 6, the movement control order (MCO) has been announced until May 17 for six districts in Selangor, and until May 20 for Kuala Lumpur.

The ban until June 6 also applies to all interstate and inter-district activity, except with police permission, Ismail Sabri said in a statement today.

“(Besides) all cross-state and cross-district activities without police permission nationwide from May 10 to June 6, all social, educational and economic activities that can cause crowded gatherings or public congestion are also banned,” he said.

“Likewise, official, social and face-to-face activities by the government and private sectors.”

However, a review of the ban will be carried out in two weeks from Monday, he added.

Besides the six districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, the MCO is also enforced in parts of Johor, Terengganu, Perak and the whole of Kelantan.

Today, several districts in Penang and Pahang and subdistricts in Perak were also placed under MCO.

Malaysia recorded new Covid-19 cases exceeding 4,000 for the second straight day, at 4,519, as of noon today.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also warned that daily cases could reach 7,000 by end-May or early June, if people continued to flout standard operating procedures to curb the spread of the virus. – May 8, 2021.
