SEVERAL districts in Penang and Pahang and subdistricts in Perak will be placed under the movement control order (MCO) for two weeks, beginning May 10, following a surge in Covid-19 cases, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The districts in Penang are Timur Laut, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan.

“The MCO will affect the subdistricts of Mukim 12, Barat Daya, Bandar Butterworth, Seberang Perai Utara and Mukim 14, Seberang Perai Utara,” said Ismail Sabri.

He said the Kuantan district in Pahang will also be placed under MCO.

He said MCO will be enforced in two subdistricts in the Hulu Perak district – Pengkalan Hulu and Belukar Semang – after a spike in Covid-19 cases.

He said the MCO will end on May 23 if the number of cases comes down.

Ismail Sabri said residents in the areas concerned will observe the usual MCO standard operating procedures.

He also announced the enforcement of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for several areas in Pahang.

In Rompin, Kampung Meripoh and Kota Bahagia will be under EMCO for two weeks, starting Monday.

“The Health Ministry has detected 11 positive cases out of 221 people screened in this area. Another 188 people are awaiting their results,” he said.

In Genting Highlands, several apartments, condominiums and a resort will also be under EMCO following a surge in cases.

The affected places are the Meranti, Midhill, Mawar and Ramin apartments as well as Windmills Condo, Vista Residence and Genting View Resort.

Malaysia recorded new Covid-19 cases exceeding 4,000 for the second straight day, at 4,519, as of noon today. – May 8, 2021.
