ECONOMIC activities are allowed to continue in the six districts placed under the movement-control order (MCO) Selangor, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He, however, said this will be subject to tighter standard operating procedure (SOP) and change in operating hours.
“Economic activities in the areas affected by the MCO will be allowed but with strict SOP in place and also changes in terms (operation) of timing.
“Social activities are not allowed,” the defence minister said at a press conference today.
Six districts in Selangor will be placed under MCO for 12 days starting May 6.
The six districts are Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang. Kuala Lumpur remains under conditional MCO.
Ismail said the decision to implement MCO was taken after the state government presented the proposal to the National Security Council.
Ismail said ramadan bazaars in the six districts will be allowed to operate, under strict SOP, but added that he will leave the final decision to the state government.
Food premises such as restaurants, food trucks, hawkers and kiosks will be allowed to operate from 6am till midnight.
“This now will be different from other areas where businesses are allowed to operate until sahur,” he said.
Grocery stores, convenience stores and pharmacies will be allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm, adding that petrol stations in these districts will also operate the same hours, except for those on highways where it will be allowed to operate 24 hours.
Daily markets, farmers’ markets, public markets and weekly markets are allowed to operate from 6am till 2pm while hospitals, clinics and medical laboratories can operate as usual. – May 4, 2021.
