THE Court of Appeal has extended the hearing into Najib Razak’s SRC International Bhd appeal by another day.

The additional hearing day is on May 6.

This is the second extension for the hearing, which was originally scheduled for 12 days. With the latest extension, it is now 15 days.

“The most important thing is that you make it specific and make things clear. If not, you confuse us,” Court of Appeal judge Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil warned before granting the extension.

Karim directed his warning to counsel Harvinderjit Singh after the lawyer showed no sign of completing the closing submission by the end of today’s hearing.

Najib is appealing against his conviction and sentence after he was found guilty on seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and abuse of position involving RM42 million of SRC International funds.

He was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million.

Harvinderjit was in the midst of a 94-page submission, stating that the prosecution needs to prove the disputed documents were authentic.

Karim interrupted the lawyer and hastened him to be “substantive” and tackle from his hardest points first.

“Your speaking notes are quite thick. All these documents, what do you want to show or raise doubts? Tell us directly, refer to the offence and which charges,” the judge said.

This was also not the first time Karim had sounded the defence team for being long-winded.

Karim is leading the three-man bench, with judges Has Zanah Mehat and Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera. – April 28, 2021.
