PAKATAN Harapan is open to cooperate with any political parties for the sake of the people, it said today.
It added that the discussions and cooperation must however be based on reform principles and agenda.
The pact also decided that its chairman and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will be its prime ministerial candidate in the next general election.
He will also be heading PH’s election campaign.
These were part of the PH’s Port Dickson resolutions agreed by the leaders of the parties in a two-day retreat in Port Dickson, which is Anwar’s federal seat.
The retreat was attended by Anwar, Amanah’s Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, all members of PH’s presidential council and leaders of the various wings in the three parties.
Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
The decision of the pact to work with any political parties allows Anwar to forge ahead with talks with Umno and its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Prior to this DAP and Amanah had expressed their disapproval of working with “kleptocratic Umno” when talks emerged of a possible link-up between the pact and Umno.
Anwar had also admitted that he had informal meetings with Umno leaders.
Umno however in its recent annual general assembly had agreed not to cooperate with Anwar, DAP and Bersatu in GE15.
The party however said it would be open to form a pact with anyone after the election.
While both Anwar and Zahid had not openly admitted their talks to work together, there have been rumours of them having already formed an understanding.
In recent days a leaked audio clip of a conversation involving purported Zahid and Anwar had gone viral, in which they discuss their political moves.
Both have denied the authenticity of the audio clip. – April 9, 2021.
