LAWMAKER Natrah Ismail has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over claims she was offered a bribe to switch her political allegiance from PKR to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government lead by Muhyiddin Yassin.
The move came after MACC urged the Sekijang MP to lodge a report of any attempts to bribe Members of Parliament to switch parties.
““I have lodged a report (with) the MACC today over an attempt to bribe me to support Muhyiddin Yassin.”
“The incident occurred on March 3, involving two individuals, including a Datuk Seri. I made the report based on Section 25 of the MACC act 2009 and I hope the anti-graft body could thoroughly investigate the matter,” she said.
Natrah said she has no intention to support the prime minister, adding that she would not betray PKR, its leaders and the voters in Sekijang.
“To those who are still trying to get opposition MPs to switch camps, stop doing it, and to the minority government, I have only one word, that is … fight,” she said.
Last Thursday the first term PKR lawmaker claimed two people approached her asking her to support Muhyiddin.
They said her constituency would benefit if she switched parties.
“I told them that I was not interested in supporting Muhyiddin Yassin and declined their offer”, the PKR MP said in a statement.
“I will not turn my back on the reforms agenda and the oath that I’ve taken as an MP, regardless of the benefits.”
Natrah said she has reported the matter to the PKR leadership.
On February 28, two PKR MPs, Julau’s Larry Sng and Tebrau’s Steven Chong, pledged to support PN as independents.
Sng said the lack of funds for his constituency as an opposition lawmaker was the main reason that he ditched his party. – March 7, 2021.
