A SENIOR PKR leader claims today that certain quarters are threatening and enticing opposition lawmakers to quit their party.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this is an attempt to weaken the opposition as the government has lost its majority, given that Parliament is now allowed to convene during the emergency.

Apart from threats like income tax probes, police investigation and graft, offers, such as projects and positions in government-linked companies, are used as bait, said the Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP.

“At the same time, it is clear for everyone to see that the government is unable to solve several issues faced by the people, be it in terms of education, jobs or public health.

“Therefore, PKR is denouncing this desperate measure to threaten and entice MPs to quit the party and become independent or to join the government,” he said in a statement today.

He reminded PKR’s lawmakers to hold on to their fighting spirit as well as that of reformasi.

The public are always judging the actions of lawmakers and this will be reflected in the 15th general election, he said.
