STERN action will be taken against those who belittle the country’s judicial and legal services, including its officers, said law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Kota Baru MP was commenting on former attorney-general Tommy Thomas’ memoir, and described many aspects of the book as “nonsense”.

“After going through the book thoroughly, I found many aspects of the book as nonsense especially on the capability and the commitment of the officers in the AGC (Attorney-General’s Chambers).

“I personally feel the book is mala fide, it undermines the integrity and dignity of the country’s legal institutions in general and legal officers in particular.

“Every task they perform is strictly in accordance with the law and never according to one’s personal interest, and far from aiming to gain popularity,” said Takiyuddin.

Thomas is being investigated for criminal defamation and breaching the Official Secrets Act following several police reports lodged against him for contents of his book, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness. – February 6, 2021.
