Hamzah in stable condition, says ministry


The Home Affairs Ministry has addressed rumours of its minister Hamzah Zainuddin’s deteriorating health, stating that his condition is stable. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 20, 2021.

HOME Affairs Minister Hamzah Zainudin, who is undergoing treatment for Covid-19 is in stable condition, his office said amidst hearsay about his current health status.

Rumours swirled on social media that the Larut MP is currently warded at the intensive care unit (ICU) after his condition deteriorated.

“The office of the Home Affairs Minister would like to thank all parties who expressed concern over the health condition of YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainudin,” it said in a statement.

“For your information, Hamzah is undergoing treatment and quarantine at the University Malaya Medical Centre and his health is in stable condition.”

“Official and verified developments regarding YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s health will only be released by the office of the Home Affairs Minister,” it said.

His officials also asked for prayers for Hamzah’s recovery.

Hamzah was confirmed to be Covid-19-positive on January 12.

He was the third Bersatu minister to test positive after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamed and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Mohd Harun.

Apart from the three, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin and National Unity Minister Halimah Mohd Sadique from Umno have also tested positive for the coronavirus. – January 20, 2021.
