HOME Minister Hamzah Zainudin is the latest cabinet member to test positive for Covid-19.

His office said in a statement the minister did a swab test yesterday and was informed early this morning that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

“He will now be quarantined and will monitored by the Health Ministry. During this quarantine period, he will continue to monitor ministry matters and ensure things run smoothly,” it said.

It did not disclose where Hamzah would be quarantined.

Hamzah’s office called on anyone who had got in contact with the minister between January 8 and 11 to get screened for virus at the nearest district health clinic.

Yesterday, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Mohd Harun said she tested positive for the coronavirus while on Saturday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (economy) Mustapa Mohamed said he was infected.

Rina is hospitalised at Sg Buloh Hospital while Mustapa is undergoing treatment at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Baru.

Two ministers identified as close contacts of Mustapa after attending a cabinet meeting last Wednesday have also gone into self-isolation.

They are Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof and Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah. Both had sat next to Mustapa during the meeting in Putrajaya. – January 12, 2021.
